Changing the Conversationon Menopause

At Ouronyx, we believe that ageing is not something to resist, but something to embrace and redefine. In this spirit, one of our founders and CEO, Ida Banek, shares her personal journey — one that shaped both her philosophy and the mission of Ouronyx.

My path to founding Ouronyx was very personal. In my mid-40s, I began to reflect on how my demanding career had taken a toll on my health. Years of stress and pushing myself relentlessly led to chronic inflammation and visible signs of premature ageing. That was a wake-up call.

I realised how closely our emotional well-being, lifestyle, and resilience are mirrored in not just our appearance, but in our overall health. I didn’t want to just mask these effects; I wanted to address them. That’s what sparked my mission — to create a place where mindful aesthetics and a resilient lifestyle could intersect.

In youth — what I like to call the springtime of life — society celebrates vitality and radiance. But under that shine, many of us wrestle with self-doubt and the search for identity. Ironically, it’s a time when we need the most self-awareness, yet often lack it.

As we enter the mature age, something beautiful tends to happen. Self-awareness begins to take root. Self-acceptance blossoms. Of course, it’s not always easy or universal, but with age comes a deeper, richer understanding of who we are and what we value.

I used to view physical decline with dread — I’ve always been competitive, high-performing, high-performance is part of my DNA. But my early 50s invited me to pause, redefine my goals, and reflect on who I am versus who I want to become. I’ve stopped chasing perfection. Today, I celebrate flaws because they make me more authentic. I don’t need to give 110% anymore; sometimes 80% — if it brings me joy — is more valuable. Most importantly, I’ve learned the art of balancing life’s inevitable imbalances.
I feel genuinely excited about contributing to a cultural shift. For too long, ageing — and especially menopause — has been framed as decline, as the end of relevance. But what if we reversed that narrative? What if ageing were recognised as a time of wisdom, balance, and self-respect? What if menopause were celebrated as a powerful transition, full of opportunities rather than losses? That’s the journey I want to highlight — not one of decline, but of growth and possibility.
